went through the first day of work as a waiter!
however, i got off lucky and got to become the storeman cos i wore the wrong shoes while the others suffered a tough first night serving kranji sec for their grad night. turns out they don't teach you much and expect you to know everything and do things fast without pause.
however, i was at the back doing odds and ends jobs with alot of rest time so i was basically slacking...
at least compared to the rest of them la, cos i was only like getting vegetarian food, finding stuff and preparing the stuff in advance nia. and i think my partner was the only one who didn't scold me sia... the rest got scolded alot according to them.
however, it's gonna be my turn tmr so hopefully i will have an easier time or something...
gonna be a troublesome first day.
went for the training for the waiter today. not too bad i guess, at least the person giving the training was entertaining enough.
if nothing goes wrong, shld be starting work next week.
too tired... shall blog about the first day of work then!
sigh... it's so hard to get a job now.
been going for dunno how many jobs interview for the past few days le and none is sucessful.
well, mainly because we have been trying for jobs for the Sitex fair and it's super hot. just the other day, we went for the interview and there was more then 50 ppl who turned up for the interview. i think the person doing the interview was shocked as he kept moving chairs in until the room was full and then they had to do the briefing 4 times before telling us that there were too many people and they had to interview us another time.
looks like everyone is in need of money this holiday...
as a result of the interviews, been going to different parts of singapore and taking way too many bus rides a day.
let's see what jobs i have tried the interview for so far...
packing hampers( 65 cents per hamper)
selling gps system for cars at sitex ($50/day+ commision)
promote singtel broadband at sitex( $8/hr)
promote laptops at sitex ($8/hr)
some event setting up job ($6/hr)
waiter at orchard hotel ($6/hr)
at the moment, only the orchard hotel one seems even possible cos tmr going for the training. not sure how many days we will get to work though...
oh well, as long as we manage to get a job, it's fine i guess.
hopefully i won't be as stupid as last time when i spent all my pay in 2 weeks. though it would be rather hard seeing that the waiter job gives you the pay everyday...
at least this is as flexible as it can get, only working on the days that you want.
anyone got other jobs lobang?
yesterday was fun! better then a usual satuday anyway.
had a good rowing session although i seriously cramped up at the first part for some reason...
the guys team went to sentosa and had some fun there. cheap way to spend a day if you ask me, just $3 for a day of fun at the beach.
loads of swimming at the start and as i cannot swim, i mainly just flopped about in the water...
i seriously need to get over my phobia of drowning and start to learn how to swim or else i will be dead in ns...
after that, we proceeded to sun tanning cos we wanted to even up our tans alittle, with our tanned arms and face but white body. didn't really maganged to though. for me, my arms just got darker while my body remained the same. beats me why.
after that, we played volleyball in the water.
well, not exactly volleyball. we were just trying to pass the ball to each other using volleyball style. for some reason, a caucuasian joined us after a while and he was pretty good. set a goal to passed it continuously 15 times and it took us the better part of 2 hours, by which time we were all starving...
after showering, we came out of the toliets just in time to see fireworks! no idea why there's fireworks there but a surprise fireworks is always nice...
got out of sentosa after that and had a looonnnggg dinner before going home.
doesn't exactly sounds like much fun with so many guys there but the db guys are fun enough to make a boring outing turn out fun!
going for an interview tmr and if we( me, bonn ikhtia, koonlong ping jim qingyi) managed to get through, we are gonna start work right after that.
not exactly fun work though, we are working as labourers? not that bad just moving stuff around i guess...
at least we will be working together so it won't be too bad...
lessons for the past few days weren't too interesting apart from today's econs lesson which was a debate about a should i stay or should i go thingy, which, as with most lectures with mr lawerance around, pretty interesting.
given a choice, would you stay here in singapore or would you prefer to go elsewhere?
if you ask me, i think singapore is a pretty good place to live in when you are young and active, since there's enough to keep you occupied and you still have the energy to keep pace with the society.
but till say... 50? you would be starting to feel detached from the society and other problems that old age brings. at that point in time, i would hope to retire in new zealand, living on a farm and others working for me there so that i would only work when i feel like it and only for enjoyment sake. of course, having the company of the person you love with you is even more impt. strolling in the wide fields doing nothing but enjoying nature and breathing fresh air and just enjoying each other's company.
that's a wonderful retirement life man.
emm... the description is supposed to be much better but i am currently brain death after a gaming marathon so forgive me.
anyway, the past few days went by smoothly enough, apart from the fact that for some stupid reason, my tailbone injury from the race refuses to heal properly and simply bending down hurts.
lessons were kinda stupid since almost everyone else has h2 maths and i don't so i was bored to death during those times as there are often lessons after that. managed to solve this today by "pursuading" bonn to pon maths and go eat mac breakfast before going to his house for halo and then going back to sch for chem.
and i am currently as broke as i ever have been in my life since i was like 5. don't think i had ever own ppl money for this long before -_-''... sigh... i need a job man...
tomorrow's gonna be a busy day with quite alot of stuff going on. first is training as usual, then the briefing for the officals for the standard chartered marathon( ya, i was bored a few months back and signed up) and then going with the db guys to sentosa! seems to be going out quite often with them now... thankfully all of us are broke and thus going out with them doesn't require spending too much money...
and i still think that i have done something stupid on tuesday which i should not have done...
gah. can i just stop doing stupid stuff and thinking stupid thoughts already?
race is over!
hmm... not a bad race. managed to do pretty well in the first day and everyone got through to the semis. the drawing was horrible though, for the guys race we were in the same heat as the eventual 2nd and 3rd placing. during the heats, we got 2nd won the ppl who got the final 2nd placing, Singapore Instititute of Management(SIM) while Singapore Canoe Federation( SCF) , who was the favourites to sweep everything got first. quite scary to meet up with such strong teams in the heats. mixed boat got through easily cos we were in a easy group while the girls got 2nd in their heats.
thinking that we were safe and wouldn't meet scf and sim again till the finals, we got a shock the next day when we found out that we would be racing against them again in the semis. this time though, we got 3rd while sim beat us by 0.3 second. that means we were out of the running for the grand finals but since we got the best timing for 3rd place, we got into the minor finals, which is sorta a race for the next 5 teams who didn't get into the grand finals.
mix boat got into plate finals and the girls got into plate finals too, which is for the 11th-15th teams. which was not a bad result as it was, seeing that we were like the youngest ppl in the events, racing against ppl from the various universities, polys, ang moh associations who are like 1 and 1/2 head taller then us and huge. speaking of which, there were alot of them there, britishs, irishs, germans, canadians and australians. oh, there were quite a lot of japanese there too. and then there were the ppl from the singapore armed forces sports association(safsa), singapore civil defence force, safra and so on.
all in all, a huge amount of ppl =)
the guys minor finals were a fiasco though, all the boats came in at the exact same time and they decided to give the 1st,2nd,3rd,4th and 5th positions to lane 5,4,3,2,1, in that order.
guess where we are.
yep, lane 1.
stupid decision. but anyway, everyone knew that we had done the best we could possibly do and we were more then satisfied, even though we didn't win anything. the knowledge that we do race on an even footing with the best in singapore made us happy enough and the words that our opponents said to us after the race, applauding our efforts and showing us that they took us seriously was more then enough to make up for the lack of medals and trophies.
nydb guys and girls, i love you all!
anyway, on a less serious note, we went to seoul garden for our post race dinner and almost rioted in there. at the start, we just ate like pigs cos we have been banned from all unhealthy food like fried food and any cold drinks for two weeks and we were hungry for anything unhealthy.
however, once we started to get full, which was no easy task seeing that we were all starving before the dinner and the ban on so many food was lifted, we started to clown around and do stupid stuff, take gay photos and just generally had alot of fun and laughter.
can't imagine another group of people i would love to spend more time with =)
after we got out from the seoul garden, we took some group pics. halfway through them, the guys started to strip the unfortunate soul who happened to be qingyi. i think the girls took some photos while he was half naked.
mind you, this was just outside the seoul garden at marina square. good thing there wasn't many ppl around or someone might have called the police -_-''...
by the end of our playing and photo taking, about half the guys team had been stripped.
i was among the unfortunate half. luckily though, i don't think anyone took a photo. not that i could be sure when my shirt was over my face though.
and we continued into the mall to photowhore somemore before making our way back home. shall post some photos when i get my hands on them.
fun day!
had our first db guys outing today and we went to bowl at this weird ass super ulu building that no one else knows got bowling and pool till someone brought us there.
had some fun bowling and pool but the real fun came at the end when we were going home. someone tried to be funny and pressed all the levels in the lift as we were going down and at the next level, a battle royale erupted where half of us were trying to keep the lift door open while the other half were trying to get it to close. 11 ppl in a tiny lift fighting in a manner that made everyone laugh till they were splitting at the sides is kinda hard to imagine but we somehow managed it anyway. then at like the 3 time the lift went down one floor, which was abt the 6th floor, we were still playing but suddenly someone walked to near the lift and since all the buttons were still pressed, we all ran for it out of the building, sprinting down 6 floors and erupted into laughter while we were imagining the face of the guy.
found out that it was raining when we got out of the building and since we couldn't risk getting sick the day before the competition, we went back into the building again, to a supposed arcade. split into two groups and raced up to the top floor again, only to find out that there wasn't a arcade there. then we decided to make our way down again, this time using the stairs. the building's stairways were kinda abandoned and it was dark and eerie at one part which somehow became funny. oh yeah, we found a sorta porn book at one of the staircase. makes you wonder what the person reading it was doing.
then we somehow ended up at the back enterance of a cinema that showed indian films and we peeked into the cinema. then someone in our group decided to laugh loudly and we ran for it again.
it was a super funny experience that i think i will remember for a while... a bunch of guys behaving like monkeys running around in a mall. good thing the building was kinda abandon and there wasn't much people around or else who knows what kinda trouble we might have gotten into...
good team bonding eh?
wow... it has been so long since i blogged. don't really felt like blogging much recently cos there doesn't seem to be much going on.
not that i am not enjoying myself but more of because i am being happy doing the same stuff over and over so there isn't much point blogging about them
that and the fact that it's mainly about db and i dun think many ppl are interested in reading about them at.
anyway, in the like two weeks? since i last blogged, quite a few things have happened. we found out if we will promote or not and i am kinda sad that some of my friends didn't make it through... but they seems to be taking it ok though. hopefully it will be a much better year for them next year. the sch's not exactly fair when it comes to promoting the students though, cos there are some with worse results then those who retained that promoted or advanced.
training's back in full swing and the river regetta is coming up so everyone is training like mad and you can see the kallang basin full of people everyday. i think it would be pretty fun to go to boat quay next weekend cos there's gonna be a ton of ppl and for girls, there's gonna be alot of hunks around so they should have an eyefeast. the guys should do ok too cos from what mr hee told us, there's around 50 teams of girls in the women's open alone which is abt 500 ppl so there's gonna be over a thousand ppl there next week. the heats is on saturday and the semis and finals gonna be on sun. should be able to get to sun if nothing goes wrong.
here is the location map in case anyone is interested
db's camp just over too! it was a tiring two day although it was more relaxed then i expected. still, excerising so much in 3 days=pain. aching all over. but it was pretty fun though, alot of laughter throughout. heck, we laughed till my stomach literally cramped up while playing pictionary with acting.
what would i do without db ppl in jc...
i think i really made a right choice when i join db otherwise jc is just gonna be a horrible experience, apart from the first 3 months which were really fun and great.
just one week more till regetta! then i can eat whatever i want liao. been banned from fast food and other unhealthy food for two weeks.
sinful food galore after the race man. i am gonna pig out like mad!
