    Future

today, mr mao came to our table and sat down and started talking with hj and sheri. for some reason, the conversation drifted to what they wanted to do in the future(hj wanted to be a taitai) and he started talking about various jobs and what they are about.

that got me thinking abit. what do i want to be in the future?

currently, i am on the idea of journalism and economics. if nothing goes wrong and provided i am able to make it to almost any job i want, these are the two i am most interested in. of course, if all else fails, there's still the normal office jobs, which can be interesting or not, depending on the position i take up and the company i work for.

however, if i can, i still want to go into either journalism or economics.

i have always been fascinated with the idea of journalism.

when i was younger, my dream job was to write for a games mag. after all, i loved playing games and i love writing( at times) and what could be better then to get the best of both world and get a job that allows me to do both at the same time?

however, i gave up that idea as i grow up due to pratical reasons. i still loved the idea of that job but there is no market for such a job in singapore so i had no choice but to give up that idea. however, i still liked the idea of writing for a job and i came upon journalism.

it's not an easy job to pursue. i know that my writing skills are not there yet and my spellling is still horrible but those can be overcome in time. however, the main problem is that the market for journalist, while there, is rather small due to the limited number of publication companies that there is in singapore so it would be a rather risky choice.

i would love to be able to get such a job sia. at the very least, you would be learning about new stuff everyday and do not have to do repeative, mundane stuff. i think the idea of asking me to do the same thing over and over again for like 40 years is enough to bored me to tears so being in journalism would solve that problem. after all, the news is different everyday.

of course, i would prefer to write stuff that are of a more light-hearted nature like those you see in Life! and on sunday times though.

i think it would be a pretty suitable job for someone of my character if i know myself well enough.

however, recently, i also got interested in the idea of economics, mainly due to the two great economics teacher i have had. mrs chong was a very nice, motherly teacher who taught pretty well while ms ho is like one of the most hardworking teacher i know so far. i can really see the effort she has put into teaching us and how much she is doing for us so that got me interested in economics.

another reason would be that i was always interested in money of course :X

economics is a pretty pratical thing to take in uni as well, because of the large number of jobs that you can take up, for example in the banking sector. doesn't seeing so many reports of rich bankers in the newspaper makes you interested in banking? of course, getting the job is the hard part.

then there is the numerous host of other jobs you can take up, seeing that just about everything has some relation to economics so it's a pretty safe choice as well. if i am not wrong, it allows you to deal with a large number of people too so that should be quite interesting.

i think it boils down to two factor for me.

    interest or praticality.

oh well, i guess i will decide when the time comes seeing that i have like 3 more years to decide. (guys gotta go serve ns remember?)

in the meanwhile, i shall try and find out more infomation about them so i can make a better informed choice. of course, there's also the work-hard-and-make-sure-that-you-can-do-what-you-want-to-do part. so i shall work hard towards my goal! (hmm...for some reason, i think saying out what i want to become and setting a goal for myself gave me some motivation to work harder. let's see how long this drive can last me)

what about you? what are you interested in becoming in the future?
